Question: What is the penalty for one who breaks his fast intentionally?

Answer: The penalty is that one must fast for two consecutive Islamic months for one fast broken without a valid reason. This is called Kaffarah. In addition to the kaffarah he must also keep one Qadha for the broken fast.

If in one Ramadhaan month a person breaks more than one fast without reason, only one kaffarah is compulsory.
